Artist's Description

I was visiting a friend almost 20 years ago. She offered coffee and we went out back to chat. She had this old chair out she was using as a planter (for lack of a better term). There was a planter with sunflowers behind it. On on corner, she had tossed her gardening hat. Funny how things catch your eye. There was the softest hint of alizirin crimson in the reflections on the hat. I asked if I could take a minute, do a sketch and make some notes. Of course, she acquiesced, she was a friend. When I got home, I took out the sketch, reviewed my notes and went to work. Proud to say it is not hanging on one of my collectors walls.

About John Macarthur

John Macarthur

Do you remember the very first time you fell in love? That feeling that you just can't put into words? I have been painting all my life. I drift into and out of impressionism and post-impressionism. I do landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes. I use color to create emotion and feeling. My goal is always to leave the viewer with that feeling that you just can't put into words.
